The MMSC is based on the Lockheed Martin Freedom variant of the Navy Littoral Combat Ship class being procured by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) under the US Navy’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The contract is for four Multi Mission Surface Combatant ships.

The vessel provides the base for conducting operations using the crew and systems contained in the Mission Package. The Mission Packages are interchangeable, and are configured within the vessel to suit the needs of a specific Surface Warfare (SUW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) or Mine Warfare (MIW) focused mission.

The vessel includes the advanced semi-planing, mono-hull and core systems that are resident in the MMSC in all configurations providing core ship functions such as self-defense, navigation, and Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I).

ILS functions focus on technical manual development for the new ships. Technical manuals include Equipment Technical Manuals (development and maintenance); custom developed technical manuals (including Damage Control (DC) Book, Cutter Information Book (CIB), Technical Repair Standards (TRS), and Specialized System Manuals).
